Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Anil Shah’s impressive CV includes an exemplary education, board certifications, dozens of published scientific articles, countless lectures and presentations, and incredible before and after surgical results. In this video, Dr. Shah explains why he chose to specialize in facial plastic surgery specifically, detailing the importance of surgeons specializing in a specific area of the body rather than performing every plastic surgery procedure.
I get this question asked a lot and it’s like, why do you only work on the face and why don’t you work on the face and the body? And for me, I think that there’s, I like to be an expert and know something backwards and forwards and really know it well. And so I feel like I’d have more expertise if I just focused on a couple of areas which is primarily noses and necks. And if I know those areas really well, I think I can kind of like, you know, master those areas, and I go back and forth. If you do, the whole face and body, it’s really hard to be an expert at that. and again, if you’re doing breasts, body, burns, cleft lips and palates, and all these different things, it’s hard to kind of have mastery of that. And some of my friends who do lots of great stuff and do amazing body work, they might do it a nose occasionally, maybe once every two months or three months, but I always feel like if you do something occasionally, you’re not really giving your patients justice to what they want. And there’s so many nuances on dealing with the nose and the neck, and it’s all these little nuances which makes the difference, in my opinion, between a great result and an okay result.
So, yeah, the other reason I like doing face versus body is that the face is truly what makes us individuals and makes us unique. It’s not, where we convey a message, you know, if our bodies were important, which they are. They’re not not important. we would talk, from here down. But when we communicate with people, they really want to see our face. What we’re all about. And so being able to alter someone’s face so it fits what they think to me is really, really special. And I appreciate that my patients allow me to do that and allow me to create that balance that, perhaps trauma or nature can provide.
