Rhinoplasty Instructions

Please watch this video in full and review this page along with corresponding email at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

​When a nurse calls you for pre op (usually 10-14 days prior to procedure), this must be reviewed in full before they can facilitate that call.

Avoid Blood Thinning Medication & Herbal Supplements

  • Avoid blood thinning medication and herbal supplements at least two weeks before the procedure and two weeks after the procedure.

Please Arrive on Time for Your Procedure

  • It is VERY IMPORTANT to arrive on time at the scheduled check-in time.

  • Allow flexibility with your day. Surgeries can run a little longer than scheduled and end a little sooner than scheduled.

Avoid Alcohol & Caffeine Before & After Your Procedure

  • Avoid alcohol a week before the procedure and a week after the procedure.

  • Avoid caffeine two days before the procedure and two days after the procedure.

Prepare to Have a Caretaker

  • It is VERY IMPORTANT to have a caretaker in mind during your pre-op call.

  • A caretaker is required for a patient that is going under anesthesia.

  • A caretaker is responsible for picking up the patient & staying with them for their first 24 hours.

  • The caretaker’s name & phone number must be provided during the pre-op call.

Going Over Prescriptions

  • Prescriptions will be sent to your preferred pharmacy prior to surgery.

  • Bring medication in with you on the day of surgery. We will go over them in detail in person the day of the surgery.

  • Most medications are covered by insurance. If not, there are options such as GoodRx.

Medical History Verification

One of our nurses or medical staff will call to verify if medical clearance is needed before your procedure.

Materials to Get Before Your Procedure

  • Bacitracin – 4×4 Gauze
  • Medical Q-tips – Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Nasal Saline Spray

Fasting Before Your Procedure

Refrain from eating and drinking eight hours prior to surgery.

This includes water.

Surgery Fees

  • A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 is required to secure a surgery date.

  • There is a $500 rescheduling fee to change your surgery date if you cancel within two weeks of surgery.

  • There is a $2,000 cancellation fee 48 hours or earlier prior to surgery.

  • Cancellations within 24 hours of surgery, a $3,000 fee will apply.

  • All fees for surgery are due three weeks prior and are non-refundable.

  • Any cancellation fees cannot be applied to other services in the office.

Arriving for Surgery

  • Arrive the day of surgery with a clean face, no makeup, no fingernail polish, and no piercings around your face or neck.

  • If you have facial hair, please shave.

  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can easily take on and off. You will go home in the robe that is provided.

Pregnancy Test

Do not urinate before your surgery day.

We will need a urine sample the day of per anesthesia for a pregnancy test.

Going Over Medication

Bring the prescriptions the day of your procedure so we can administer them to you prior to the procedure.

Incision Care

  • Incisions after rhinoplasty should be cleaned two-three times a day.

  • Clean it with hydrogen peroxide diluted in warm water (1:1 ratio) and then applya thin layer of bacitracin.

  • Make sure your sutures stay moist at all times.

  • DO NOT BLOW YOUR NOSE. Use nasal saline spray as often as needed to flush the inside of the nose.

Icing

  • Icing is VERY IMPORTANT post rhinoplasty to help reduce swelling. 

  • Ice as much as you can tolerate for the first three days – 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.

Nasal Cones

  • Nasal cones will be provided after the procedure.

  • Wear them all day, every day until your one week follow up.

  • Cones should be taken out at least three times a day to clean with warm water and hydrogen peroxide then placed directly back into the nose.

Taping After One Week

  • At your one week follow-up, we will tape your nose that needs to stay on for 72 hours. 

  • We will teach you how to tape your nose in which you will have to tape every night indefinitely based on Dr. Shah’s discretion.

Exercising After Rhinoplasty

  • All exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided the first week after.

  • After seven days, you can resume light activity such as walking.
