Alar - 2 Weeks Pre Op

In preparation of your upcoming procedure in 3 weeks, please review the following instructions below.

Although the procedure is somewhat minor, we recommend doing what you can to make the recovery as easy as possible.

To help minimize bruising and swelling, please do the following:

  • Avoid blood thinners such as Aspirin, Ibuproben, Aleve and herbal supplements such as fish oil and green tea. A full list of medications can be found here.

  • Avoid Alcohol one week prior to the procedure and caffeine 2 days prior to the procedure to reduce swelling and bruising.

  • Please be aware of your check-in time for your procedure. You will need 1 hour prior to the procedure to get relaxed.  Feel free to bring headphones or a book to enjoy while you are relaxing.

  • Make sure your ride home is arranged with a family member or friend. Remember you won't be able to drive yourself after the procedure.

  • Please eat breakfast or lunch on the day of your surgery. You will be receiving medications and it is better to have food in your stomach to avoid nausea.

Alar - 1 Day Post Op

We hope you are well and had a good night's rest!

Here are a few reminders for your recovery:

  • It is important to try to rest and ice your under eye and cheek area.

  • Icing is the best option to prevent and/or treat bruising. It is most effective the first three days post procedure. Please see this video for instructions of the proper way to ice after your procedure.

  • Bleeding is normal from day one through four but will most likely subside today or tomorrow.

  • Clean your sutures 2-4 times per day using 1:1 ratio of warm water and hydrogen peroxide. When the sutures are clean apply Bacitracin ointment. This should be done every day until your sutures are removed or have dissolved.

  • Please sleep elevated so that your head is above your heart for the next five to six days.

  • Continue to avoid caffeine for one more day, alcohol for one more week, and blood thinners/herbal supplements for two more weeks.
