Buccal - 2 Weeks Pre Op

In preparation of your upcoming surgery in 2 weeks, please review the following instructions carefully.

This is also a video link you can refer to: Pre-Op Instructions- Two Weeks before your procedure.

  • Stop all blood thinner medications. This includes all medications and over the counter supplements. Common blood thinners include: Advil, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Ginseng, Glucosamine.

Call the office if you have any questions about a medication you are taking.

  • Ideally, stop all tobacco use. Smoking can increase your chance of complications during surgery. This includes: higher risk of infection, high risk of blood supply issues, can compromise anesthesia, and can dramatically delay your healing process.

  • Please make sure you arrange a ride for after your procedure. You will be receiving medications prior to your procedure, and you will not be allowed to drive yourself home that day.

* Below is a list of materials you'll want to gather before the procedure:
- Ice/frozen peas
- Exam gloves (for icing technique)
- Antiseptic Mouthwash

We will review what to do with these materials on the day of your procedure.

  • Start avoiding caffeine today until 2 days after your surgery.

  • Please be aware of your check-in time for your procedure. You will need 1 hour prior to the procedure to get relaxed.  Feel free to bring headphones or a book to enjoy while you are relaxing.

  • Make sure your ride is arranged with a family member or friend. Remember you won't be able to drive yourself after the procedure.

  • You will need to sleep elevated after the procedure (use at least 2 pillows) to help reduce swelling.

Buccal - 1 Day Post Op

Hope you are doing well and had a good night's rest!

Here are some post op reminders for your recovery:

  • Avoid caffeine for one more day.

  • Avoid alcohol for the next week.

  • Avoid blood thinners for two more weeks.

  • Continue to avoid sharp food and acidic foods. The sutures in your mouth will dissolve on their own.

  • Use the antiseptic mouthwash 2-3 times a day to keep the incisions clean.

  • Continue to apply ice to your cheeks for the next 3 days. We recommend icing 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.

  • Swelling can last 3-7 days. Ice consistently and make sure to sleep elevated for the next few nights.

  • Take the pain medication as needed. Try to switch to Tylenol Extra Strength if you are experiencing only mild pain.
